Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate overtime on my time card?
Under the federal FLSA, overtime is any hours over 40 in a workweek, paid at 1.5× your regular hourly rate. Enter your daily hours or punch times and this calculator applies the overtime threshold automatically.
Does break time count as hours worked?
Short rest breaks (5–20 min) are generally paid and count as hours worked. Bona fide meal breaks (30+ min) where you are fully relieved of duties are unpaid and do not count. Deduct unpaid breaks from your daily total.
What is time and a half?
Time and a half means 1.5× your regular hourly rate for overtime hours. Example: $20/hr regular rate → $30/hr overtime rate. Multiply your overtime hours by this rate to get your overtime pay.
How do I convert hours and minutes to decimal hours?
Divide the minutes by 60 and add to the hours. Example: 7 hours 45 minutes = 7 + (45 ÷ 60) = 7.75 hours. This calculator handles the conversion automatically when you enter start/end times.
